Are you entitled to free school meals?
In this time of economic downturn, the school would like to take this opportunity to remind parents/carers of the opportunity to claim free school meals for their children. There is no stigma attached to claiming free school meals and there is nothing to distinguish a child in receipt of free school meals to one that is paying for them.
Gateshead local authority uses the numbers of pupils for free school meals to provide additional funding to the school; so by applying for free school meals you not only benefit yourself, but also the school. If you claim any of the items below, you are likely to be entitled to free school meals. Application forms are available at the school office or the Civic Centre, Gateshead.
Income Support
Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Assistance as an Asylum Seeker
the guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided that you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,040)
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you would like further information or assistance in completing the claim form. The Citizens Advice Bureau and the Civic Centre may also be able to help you complete the form.
