Progress Reports 2008
This year's progress reports will be sent out to all parents/carers on Wednesday, 9th July.
Y5 visiting Washington Old Hall
Both Y5 classes will be visiting Washington Old Hall next half term, to coincide with their topic of the Tudors.
The children will experience what life was like in Tudor times, wear Tudor costume & experience an appetising Tudor Banquet.
The dates of the trip are as follows:
5G Monday, 9th June
5R Wednesday, 11th June
SAT's & Optional Tests
Y6 SATs & Optional Tests will be taking place in school week beginning Monday, 12th May.
Jack-in-the-box Theatre Company
The Jack-in-the-box Theatre Company will be visiting school on Thursday, 24th April.
Show Racism the RED card!
Today Y5 worked with former Sunderland players Gary Bennett & Kieran Brady, who were here to help raise awareness with regard to racism.
The children identified different kinds of racism & more importantly what they can do about it. They watched a DVD featuring many popular players from around the world, who shared their experiences & offered advice.
To conclude the day, the children were able to practise their football skills in the MUGA.
An enjoyable day was had by all & both Gary & Kieran were friendly & approachable.

The childern also worked with Mr Fawcett from Heworth Grange Comprehensive to do some 'data logging'
Cartoon Capers with Jonni Starr
Y5's visit to Heworth CLC was very productive & enjoyable.
All children had the opportunity to expand their musical talents & work in groups to produce a cartoon based upon Superhero 'Jonni Starr'
A DVD of the cartoon will be sent to us from Heworth CLC, so we can watch & praise our hard work.
Sparks fly with Mr Thomas!
Mr Thomas from Emmanuel College has been sharing his electronic expertise with 6G this term.
The children have become familiar with the components of electrical circuits & have made torches, light-up snowmen & a buzzer game.

Mrs Greenwell's class thoroughly enjoyed programming their robots to do a variety of skilful tasks.
The children used a series of input commands & watched the robots walk, talk & strut their stuff!

Lights, Camera, Action!
Tyneside cinema have been working with our Year Six pupils in a News Real Project.
The children have written, produced & filmed their own News Reel stories & will have the opportunity to edit their creativity over the coming weeks.
Titles include 'Kevin Keegan returns', 'New school for Dunston Hill', 'UFO in Dunston' & 'Terrific Take 10'.
The final News Reels will be screened at the restored Tyneside Cinema, when it reopens in Newcastle.
6D in 'Control' with the Lego Robotics
Our Y6 children had a great day at Heworth CLC.
They could successfully operate traffic lights, make a clown's face light up & use specialist 'Control' software.
This was then put in to practice when they programmed a Lego Robot to complete a variety of highly technical tasks.... WELL DONE Y6!

Reception & Y3 enjoyed their ICT
Both our Reception & Y3 children thoroughly enjoyed their visits to Gateshead & Heworth CLC's on Wednesday.
Reception enjoyed working with the 'Bee-Bots' whilst Y3 experimented with animation.
Y5 Primary Enterprise Project
Our Y5 children have had the opportunity to work with Mr Williams from Emmanuel College & learn some of the key elements regarding business & enterprise.
The children worked well in their groups & enjoyed their sessions.
Maths Puzzle Challenge
Key Stage Two children took part in a Maths Puzzle Challenge on Monday, 21st January.
Each year group worked on a variety of puzzles & had to demonstrate not only skill but determination.

Music Workshop Team visiting Dunston Hill
The Music Workshop Team in Gateshead, will be visiting us on the morning of Wednesday, 19th March. The team will be sharing their musical talent with Key Stage One & Two children, based on a particular theme & encouraging all of us to become involved & have some fun!
Year Five's ICT fest...
Year five children will have a 'FAB' couple of days at Heworth CLC on Monday, 11th & Tuesday, 12th February.
All children will have the opportunity to experience some extra special ICT including...
writing & performing narration & music to accompany a cartoon clip; distorting images with Adobe Photoshop & completing some important 'Data Logging'.
Y6 in 'Control' at Heworth CLC
Y6 will be visiting Heworth CLC on Friday, 1st February to learn more about 'Control' - part of the year six ICT curriculum. The children will also have the opportunity to work with Lego Robotics & practise their already impressive skills.
Reception introduced to ICT
All of our Reception children will be visiting Gateshead CLC on Wednesday, 30th January to become familiar with ICT. The children will have fun learning the basics & no doubt enjoy this new experience.

Y3 visiting Heworth CLC
Year three will be visiting Heworth CLC on Wednesday, 30th January, to combine their ICT skills with their current topic - 'The Egyptians' & also have some fun with animation.
Foundation Stage Nativity Photos
Children from years one to six have had the pleasure of watching the Foundation Stage Nativity ~ 'Humph the camel' & the audience thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our youngest children looked fabulous & sang some lovely songs...

Music Workshop visits Key Stage Two
The Music Workshop team in Gateshead visited years 3 to 6 today & shared their music relating to 'food' with us. This included nursery rhymes such as 'Pop goes the Weasel', 'Polly put the kettle on' & 'Oranges & lemons' to name a few.
As usual the children were very 'hands on' & sang harmonies as well as using some instruments.

Year One children have been looking at aspects of Christianity & were able to watch the Christening of baby Molly by Rev. Teasdale in St Nicholas' Church.

Fab Food Funhouse visits Dunston Hill
The Fab Food Funhouse visited Key Stage Two, to encourage healthy eating & raise awareness of the unhealthy content in some foods.
The Funhouse provided an interactive & engaging session, where the children played a variety of games!
