Y5 Cycle Training
Y5 children will have the opportunity to develop their bicycle skills & road safety when the Cycle Training Team visits school.
As stated in the letter sent home with your child, children are required to bring their bikes (& helmets if they have one) into school for their first session on Thursday, 24th April.
Remaining sessions also take place on a Thursday & are on the following dates:
1st May, 8th May, 15th May & 22nd May.
Show Racism the RED card!
Today Y5 worked with former Sunderland players Gary Bennett & Kieran Brady, who were here to help raise awareness with regard to racism.
The children identified different kinds of racism & more importantly what they can do about it. They watched a DVD featuring many popular players from around the world, who shared their experiences & offered advice.
To conclude the day, the children were able to practise their football skills in the MUGA.
An enjoyable day was had by all & both Gary & Kieran were friendly & approachable.
Ugly mugs!
Smile please!!!
The children loved distorting their own image using Adobe Photoshop whilst at Heworth CLC...
The childern also worked with Mr Fawcett from Heworth Grange Comprehensive to do some 'data logging'
Cartoon Capers with Jonni Starr
Y5's visit to Heworth CLC was very productive & enjoyable.
All children had the opportunity to expand their musical talents & work in groups to produce a cartoon based upon Superhero 'Jonni Starr'
A DVD of the cartoon will be sent to us from Heworth CLC, so we can watch & praise our hard work.
Y5 Primary Enterprise Project
Our Y5 children have had the opportunity to work with Mr Williams from Emmanuel College & learn some of the key elements regarding business & enterprise.

Year 5 Mid-Term Update
Hi to all Y5 Parents & carers!
We thought we'd post a few lines to let you know a little bit more about what we've been up to so far this term.
We are delighted to say that both classes have settled well into their new routines and some children are trying hard to improve their behaviour especially during a lunchtime however, we would like to see further improvements during this time.
Golden Time provides a good incentive for the children to improve their behaviour and approach to learning and it is lovely to see the children responding well to this new initiative.
Their PPA activities this term have included: Multi-Sports with coaches from Newcastle United, Art which has coincided with our current topic of The Aztecs, Dances from around the world and Design Technology which will enable the children to be creative & 'hands-on'.
5R are also enjoying their weekly swimming lesson at Dunston Baths & this will continue until February half-term, when 5G will then take over until the summer holidays.
Before Christmas, we will be visiting The Centre for Life to learn more scientific facts about the Earth and Space, which we are currently studying in science & as always we will be visiting the Theatre Royal for our annual pantomime.
May we also thank you once again for attending our recent Parent Consultations. It was a lovely opportunity for us to meet and share your child's progress so far with you.
Goodbye for now and take care.
